My name is Ryan Koch and I’m the principal of Koch Structural Solutions. I’m a licensed professional engineer with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Montana State University.
While getting my master’s degree I began studying the implementation of GFRP rebar in slender columns. Upon graduating in 2006 I started working at Hughes Brothers Aslan FRP division as an FRP Applications Engineer. During my time with Aslan FRP I became an active member of ACI committee 440 working to develop consensus standards for FRP internal reinforcing, FRP structural strengthening and various ASTM material standards and test methods. I was the principal author of the ACI 440.1R design examples and 440-E professional education committee presentation describing the 440.1R design methodology. I have been an associated member of AASTHO committee T-6 and was intimately involved in developing the AASHTO GFRP LRFD design standard as well as participating in the development of the CSA S807 and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Standard C-6 provisions for FRP reinforcing. During my career with Aslan FRP we pioneered the use of the “Near Surface Mount” structural strengthening method and reviewed and contributed to the publication of the ACI 440.2R FRP strengthening standards.
My role as Aslan FRP Applications Engineer involved helping develop these industry standards and then to guide fellow professional engineers in applying these standards to specific projects. Now on my own, I’m available to share these experiences.
In addition to structural engineering, I have a passion for microbrewing and am the Brew Master of Bottle Rocket Brewing in Seward Nebraska.
